Jill Didier's Vision for Wauwatosa
My name is Jill Didier and I am running for Mayor of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
In choosing your next mayor, you face a clear choice: you can choose a career politician who has his/her best interest in place, or you can boldly choose me—a daughter, mother, and wife who lives in the community and wants to make a real difference.
Since I announced my candidacy for mayor in May 2007, I've met thousands of people in every corner of this great community who've said to me “I want Wauwatosa to continue to challenge itself to do better."
If you know me at all, you know I am the person to facilitate that challenge because I am a person who will continually challenge myself, my co-workers, and the community to do better!
It is time for Wauwatosa to have a mayor that connects with the people.
I will win my campaign by meeting and listening to the fine people of the neighborhoods of Wauwatosa. I will go door-to-door, to local businesses, to city meetings, to neighborhood gatherings, to block parties, to senior centers, asking residents to join me in the journey towards a better Wauwatosa, a better future.
My Vision
My vision for a brighter future includes but is not limited to the following:
Building a dynamic administration
During my time on the Council, I have earned a reputation for seeing that the concerns of my constituents in District 4 are addressed no matter how large or how small. I have focused on public safety and our children. As mayor, I will do the same for our entire city and I will challenge experts to build a dynamic administration, competent and ready to tackle our most pressing issues.
Moving toward a brighter future
As mayor I will demand that we focus on the accountability of our government. Those before me focused on the past, causing them to tread cautiously, afraid of disturbing the status quo. You and I need to look to the horizon, to a city that encourages engagement, excellence, and a government that challenges you, me, and itself, to do more.
In the coming months I will carry a vision for a brighter future across the City and discuss how a Didier administration will fight to complete the changes needed to take Wauwatosa to next level, a brighter future.
I pledge to you today, my head and my heart, my determination, and my passion. With your help, I will use my bright new vision for Wauwatosa to build a brighter future for all of us. But the future can’t be complete without input from you! I look forward to working with you and for you in the upcoming months and years.
My Platform
Building a stronger Wauwatosa—One block at a time; one person at a time.
In choosing the next mayor of Wauwatosa, YOU have a clear choice to make. YOU can settle for the status quo or YOU can vote for Jill Didier. She is a daughter, a mother, and a wife in the community who wants to make a difference! The choice is YOURS—don’t let yourself down.
Communicating with ALL, not just SOME
- As mayor, Jill Didier will have an open door policy. If you have a concern to voice, a question to ask, or a new idea to present, with Didier as mayor, you will have that opportunity through many avenues, to get your message heard including town hall meetings.
- Jill Didier knows the community is any mayor’s best asset. Mutual respect and communication will make change happen. She will take the time to be in the community! Didier is the people’s mayor.
- Wauwatosa seniors have been the pillars and creators of this great community. Jill Didier supports the efforts of the Hart Park Senior Center, the efforts of our Health Department and the Senior Commission. Their voices remain important in our community and should be heard. As mayor, Jill Didier will work toward keeping the lines of communication open with this special group of individuals.
- The individuals who serve our community, the police, the fire department and other public service representatives deserve our respect and support. Jill Didier will work to build a strong alliance based on mutual respect and understanding, helping the representatives to be successful in the community, ultimately helping the community.
- Wauwatosa needs a positive advocate at the state level. Having strong working relationships with our state lawmakers on both sides is crucial to advancing the city’s needs. Didier is ready to take on the challenge to continue building the relationships we need to advance our stance at the state level.
Protecting our Children
- On November 6, 2007 the common council voted unanimously to adopt and ordinance initiated by Jill Didier. She took the lead in protecting the Wauwatosa community by initiating an ordinance that prevented sex offenders from living near schools, parks, and other areas where our children congregate. Jill Didier will continue to aggressively protect the public and draw the line on public safety, especially when it comes to sexual predators.
- Jill Didier also supported surveillance cameras for Hart Park and obtained a grant ($212,937) resulting in safer routes to school—ultimately protecting our children to and from their walk to school in District 4 and part of District 3. If elected, Jill Didier would work toward initiating the Safe Routes to School program city wide.
Working with Our Community Officials
- Wauwatosa is an incredible place to live, work, and raise a family. As mayor, Jill Didier will work to develop a strong relationship with our law enforcement officers and those across our city lines. Together, we can keep the city safe.
- The mall is an enormous asset to the community. It’s important that the mayor work proactively with Wauwatosa police, the county and mall management to overcome challenges and community perceptions. As mayor, Jill Didier will encourage greater police presence in the parking lot and work hard to keep a vital asset of our community strong.
- We have a strong base of community patrolling, through which the police and the community works together. In particular Didier will support our neighborhood associations, encourage block captains to stay involved, and encourage our community to stay active in our neighborhoods. Most importantly, Didier will support our police department in their efforts to keep our city safe.
Living Within Our Means
- It’s time for government to work and live within its means. The city’s property tax levy has grown 20% since 2002; so have the city’s fees. Working together, we can do better.
- Health care benefits have risen significantly since 2000. As mayor, Jill Didier will toward a program that provides public employees the benefits they need, keeping them more in line with other communities while working within the city’s budgetary limits.
Preserving Our City’s Character
- Jill Didier supports design standards for North Avenue, State Street, and other major corridors; encouraging thoughtful development that expands the city’s tax base while preserving its character.
- Wauwatosa needs an updated vision—a vision that captures our vibrancy and furthers our potential. Proactive leadership in the mayor’s office will ensure that redevelopment occurs in a well thought out manner with neighborhood involvement. As mayor, Jill Didier will use the comprehensive plan and input received from the neighborhoods to develop a vision for each area of focus. Working together,we can grow the tax base while preserving our community’s character.
